Interpreting Errors in the 10000 range

Situation:
You see an error message in the 10000 range when running the Symantec PartitionMagic product. You want to know how to interpret this error message.

Solution:
Do the following to interpret the error message.

To determine the operating system error code

  1. Subtract 10,000 from the reported error code.
The difference indicates the exact error code.
  2. Click Start > Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following command:

    cmd.exe
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the cmd.exe Window, at the command prompt, type the following command and then press Enter:

    net helpmsg xx

Where xx is the error number found after subtracting 10,000. For example if the error code was 10032, then the resulting error type in is 32.
  6. A brief description returns.

Technical Information:
Occasionally, ServerMagic, VolumeManager, or PartitionMagic may return an error in the 10000 range when running Windows NT. Errors within this range indicate operating-system-specific errors.
